Enjoy Double Dutch at the Brigadier General Charles E. McGee Library!
DC Retro Jumpers (DCRJ) presents a dynamic double Dutch exhibition that combines word and movement. We begin with a reading from JAYLA JUMPS IN, an acclaimed novel by DCRJ founder Joy Jones about a girl who discovers that double Dutch can transform her community. After the reading, DCRJ team members start turning and invite participants into the rope. Old-timers and first-timers are shown how to jump double Dutch on the spot.
DC Retro Jumpers, a double Dutch team that does demonstrations and provides classes to adults and children throughout the DMV, began in 2004 as a Double Dutch program for adults at Turkey Thicket Recreation Center in Washington, DC and has gone on to perform for the cherry blossom parade, Michael Baisden Show, The National Children’s Museum, the Secret Service, and much more.
